Sum-up from Curator Session discussions

The Curator Session agenda was split into 3 parts:

1) The first part consisted in sharing about experience (practices, tips, questions and issues) using NetarchiveSuite and Heritrix for broad and selective crawls. Discussions went over selection, configuration, monitoring, QA and documentation processes and procedures. (BnF initially prepared a presentation that was not used during the meeting because discussions were rather informal).

2) The second part was about the wish list: curators discussed their needs at the operational level. Some needs concerned small features, other larger developments (see below).

3) During the third part, we discussed tools the NetarchiveSuite curator community could create and use to communicate.

Tools :

  • A mailing list called netarchivesuite-curators dedicated to curatorial issues.
  • A dedicated space on the Wiki to share documentation.
  • A FAQ created collaboratively.
  • A space for joint projects.

Documents:

  • A more functional road map + time frame of the developments.
  • Schedule of stable releases and content of these releases.
  • Review of current user manual.

Meetings:

  • An annual brainstorming meeting.
  • Visits, practical training based on the observation of practices and production environment (a few days should be enough to see the entire process // there is need to arrange schedules with crawls maybe during an event and a possibility to enlarge to topics other than web archiving).
