Short description

The two days NetarchiveSuite workshop for partners have several tracks for technical, curators and managers.

Software and Equipment
It will be a good idea to bring along your own laptop. For developers please make sure you have the following software installed:
  • A SVN client for accessing the NetarchiveSuite gforge-svn-repository. Choices are among others subclipse (a free eclipse SVN plugin) and SmartSVN (a commercial client).

  • NetarchiveSuite support following Development enviroment:

  • IntelliJ
  • Eclipse (3.3+)
ALL: Please insert your proposals. Minor as well as major proposals
  • Technical: Proposal of issues to be discussed on the technical workshop

    • 10 most important NetarchiveSuite Feature Request or Bugs from the technical group. Focused on infra structure. Why?, What is the benefit? Who helps this FR (Curators, Daily Management, Developers..) (Proposal from: Christen)

    • When do we need to support WARC and what is the estimate of the workeffort? (Proposal from: Christen)
    • When do we need to use Heritrix 3 and what is the estimate of the workeffort? (Proposal from: Christen)
    • Review of development proces. (Proposal from: Christen)
    • Future Development tools. Example: Jira for bug tracking, issue tracking, and project management. (Proposal from: Christen) (Mikis) We should considering migrating to the coming SBForge platform which will proberly replace the current GForge platform

    • For the build process, should maven used instead of ant? pros and cons? (from Andreas)

(Mikis) See NARC-3_Create_Maven_Proof-of-concept_build for currently undergoing efforts.

    • Maintaining a production installation of NetarchiveSuite: exchanges of scripts, hints and practices (Proposal from: Sara)

    • Review of the articulation of development and stable releases and commit processes (Proposal from Nicolas)
    • Review of planning for next releases (Proposal from Sara)
    • Design discussion - make more redundancy in NetarchiveSuite, e.g. more Arcrepository and BitarchiveMonitor apps (Proposal from Søren)

    • Design discussion: Are we using our JMS broker in an optimal way (Maybe we should enable clustering?)(Proposal from Søren)
    • Design discussions: Dump from SBforges Netarchive design forum (Mikis)

  • Non-Technical: Proposal of issues to be discussed on the non-technical workshop:

    • 10 most important NetarchiveSuite Feature Request from the non-technical group. Focused on curator tools. Why?, What is the benefit? Who helps this FR (Curators, Daily Management, Developers..) (Proposal from: Christen)

    • How to cooperate? Tele-conferences, videoconferences, Blogs, Wiki..... (Proposal from: Christen)
    • Brainstorming on new functionalitites cut into different block: Selection/Nomination // Crawl preparation (domains, configurations, seedlist, harvest defintions, schedules) // monitoring // QA // preservation, based onthe analysis of the most repetitive and time consuming activities // then 10 most important FR. (Proposal from Sara)
    • Review of existing documentation, do we need more ? (Proposal from Sara)
    • Work scenarios using NetarchiveSuite to snapshot and selective harvest (Proposal from: Karen, Jon)

    • Working with Heritrix and Heritrix concepts (Proposal from: Karen, Jon)
    • Further development of the new BNF sorting feature: (Proposal from Sabine)
      • Make it possible to sort in the list of harvest definitions. If it is possible to place the inactive definition on the bottom of the page the list of harvest definitions will be more easy-to-read.
      • The same for the configuration page for each domain (Edit domain). Today it is difficult to keep the overview for the large domains with many different (both activ and inactive) definitions, – for example dr.dk.
    • Possibility to delete an erroneous created defintion/seedlist (such as typo errors) – a sort of ”Undo-function” (Proposal from Sabine)
    • Establishment of a non-technical mailinglist for exchange of experience. (Proposal from Sabine)
      • A mailing-list where the web curators can exchange experience and discuss curator problems.
      • Work together on the concept of Harvest Definition (Proposal from Gildas)
  • Technical+Non-technical: Proposal of Issues to be discussed on the joint technical and non-technical workshop:

    • Introductory presentation from the Program Manager of the future challenges of Webarchiving and what must be supported by NetarchiveSuite (Proposal from: Christen)

    • Presentation of the 2 * 10 most important FR/Bugs from the technical and non-technical group. (Proposal from: Christen)
    • Proposal for Netarchivesuite roadmap. (Proposal from: Christen)
    • Presentation of each institution's agenda and main projects (to know where efforts can be put on) (Proposal from: Sara)
    • Take a long time for presentations (who is doing what) so that everyone knows each other (Proposal from: Sara)
    • Development of statistical reports (Proposal from: ONB)
